ForumBot is a managed AI assistant for XenForo. Your registered members get fast, accurate answers drawn from your own content, and you decide who can use it, how it's grounded, and whether its public replies are reviewed before they post. There is no OpenAI or Anthropic account to bring, no API keys, and no server access. A license key is the only credential your forum needs.
NOTE: ForumBot is developed with AI assistance using XenForo's publicly released 2.3.10+ developer tooling and following its documented resource standards (see the HYS
here). Every release is run through a code-review agent, built and tested locally, and runs on our own forum before it ships.
TONMO.com has run this stack in production since 2025 (as "Octobot"), answering from a 25-year archive of community knowledge. Unsolicited member feedback:
"For someone trying to learn, this makes it so much easier to find what I'm looking for. So far the responses have been excellent, or leading me to previous threads to read more."
- A private chat page: a 1:1 AI conversation on its own forum page (guests are prompted to register or log in).
- "Ask about this post": a robot icon on posts opens a chat pre-loaded with that post and its thread context for an explanation, summary, or follow-up.
- @tag in threads: permitted members (based on usergroup) can tag the bot by name in any post and it replies in-thread, in a visually distinct reply. Their replies are held for moderator approval before they appear, unless you grant the usergroup a bypass.
- Project Info: members save personal context (setup, goals, background) and opt in to include it per chat for extra-tailored answers.
- Daily message counter: members see how many messages remain today and when the count resets; unlimited groups see a running tally.
- Share a chat: members can create a public, read-only snapshot of a conversation that auto-expires in 5 days (off by default).
- The agent prompt: engineered for your forum's domain, tone, and rules, combined with our standard XenForo-optimized instructions.
- Per-usergroup permissions: you decide which groups can use the chat and which can tag the bot (guest access is not supported).
- The moderation queue: bot replies to member @tags route into XenForo's standard Approval Queue for staff review; trusted groups can be granted an instant-post bypass.
- Knowledge base ingestion: optionally ground answers in your own articles, threads, and forum structure (see below).
- An admin chat-log viewer with member feedback ratings, plus a viewer for active shared chats.
- Bot identity and starter prompts: set the bot's name and notice text, offer clickable starter prompts, and ship with auto-installed privacy and help pages.
- An optional upgrade nudge: show daily-limited members an "Upgrade for unlimited access" link beside their counter (off by default).
The AI backend is powered through Xpertloop. A bot answers from its agent prompt alone, and you can ground it further in your own content with three optional CSV exports we upload and configure during onboarding:
- {site}-articles-kb.csv: articles, blog posts, docs, or other non-forum content the bot can cite.
- {site}-forums-kb.csv: thread titles and post content, so the bot can draw on community discussion.
- {site}-nav-kb.csv: your forum's sections, so the bot can route members to the right place.
AI can be wrong. When the bot replies publicly to an @tag, that reply is labeled as AI-generated and, unless you grant the group a bypass, held in your moderation queue for staff review before it posts.
The addon is free. The AI backend is enabled with a license key from a
$40/month subscription at
forumbot.net.
Three steps to live:
- Install the addon.
- Subscribe at forumbot.net and provision your account with us (agent prompt and optional content ingestion).
- Enter your license key in AdminCP and set your usergroup permissions.
Member chats are not read or retained on our backend. Chat logs are off by default; when you enable them, they live entirely in your XenForo database, are visible only to your admins, and auto-delete after 30 days. Neither Deep Intuition LLC nor Xpertloop has access to your members' chat content.
XenForo 2.3+, self-hosted or XF Cloud, with no server-level access required. XenForo 2.4 support is planned on release.
Deep Intuition LLC operates TONMO.com (established 2000), where ForumBot's AI stack first ran as Octobot. It is not an anonymous upload. Questions:
