New Features
Conversation message soft-delete, restore, hard-delete, and edit
Four new permissions added to the
conversation permission group:
- Delete own message in conversation — Members can soft-delete their own messages within a conversation they participate in. They can also view the full content of their own soft-deleted messages.
- Delete any message in conversation — Moderators can soft-delete any message in a conversation they participate in. They can also view the full content of all soft-deleted messages.
- Hard-delete any message in conversation — Administrators can permanently remove messages from a conversation. The first message of every conversation is protected and cannot be hard-deleted by anyone, including Administrators.
- Undelete message in conversation — Restore a soft-deleted message back to visible state. Users with this permission can also view a short excerpt of soft-deleted messages and edit the content of a soft-deleted message before restoring it.
Conversation starter special privileges
The member who started a conversation automatically has the ability to soft-delete and restore any message within their own conversation, without needing any additional permissions. This gives conversation owners full control over their conversations.
Privacy protection
All message actions (delete, restore, hard-delete, edit) strictly require the user to be an active participant of the conversation. Moderators and Administrators who are not participating in a conversation cannot intervene, ensuring conversation privacy is fully respected.
Deleted message visibility by permission level
Soft-deleted messages display differently depending on the viewer's permissions:
- Users with no delete permission see no trace of the deleted message.
- Users with Delete own permission see the full content of their own deleted messages only.
- Users with Delete any permission see the full content of all deleted messages.
- Users with Undelete permission see a short text excerpt of deleted messages (with a "Show more" toggle), and can edit the message content while it remains deleted.
